Granny Star Placemat

Traditionally Crochet placemats are often rectangular in shape. But, won't it be fun to put a unique twist , and make a Star Shaped Placemat instead!! This Granny Star Placemat is a variation of the traditional Granny Star. The border of the placemat is done with Reversible Single Crochet Border. This gives the placemat a textured finish.

This is a very easy and fun to do project. Use a wide range of color combination and they would make pretty yet very practical gifts for your loved ones. The size of the placemat can be adjusted according to your need. You could make this as a coaster or keep increasing the rounds to make it bigger.

Materials Used:-

  • Yarn(2 Colors)
  • Crochet Hook

I love shopping for yarn and I am always on look out for variety of yarns to try out.I have used a Two Toned Yarn for this Placemat.

Check Out the Video Tutorial Here:-

Round 1:-

Start with  a Magic Circle.

Chain 2.(Count this as 1 Double Crochet)

2 Double Crochet

Chain 3.(this will form the corners)

3 Double Crochet
Repeat (Chain 3, 3DC) 5 more times.

Slip Stitch on top of the Chain 2 and pull the yarn end to close the loop.

You should have 6 Corners.

Round 2:-

Slip stitch on the next 2 stitches and slip stitch in the Chain 3 space.

Chain 2.(Consider this as 1 double Crochet)

2 Double Crochet

Chain 2.

3 Double Crochet in the same Chain 3 Space.

Chain 1

Repeat ((3 Double Crochet, Chain 2, 3 Double Crochet) Chain 1) * in all the corners.

Slip Stitch on top of the Chain 2.

Round 3:-
Slip on the next 2 stitches and 1 slip stitch to the Chain 1 space.

Chain 2(consider as 1 Double Crochet)

2 Double Crochet
Chain 2.
3 Double Crochet in the same Chain 3 Space.
Chain 1

3 Double Crochet in the chain 1 space( from the previous round),chain 1.

Repeat (((3 Double Crochet, Chain 2, 3 Double Crochet) Chain 1)3dc,Chain 1))*

Slip Stitch on top of the Chain 2.

Round 4:-
Slip on the next 2 stitches and 1 slip stitch to the Chain 1 space.

Chain 2(consider as 1 Double Crochet)
2 Double Crochet
Chain 2.
3 Double Crochet in the same Chain 3 Space.

Chain 1

(3DC in the Chain 1 Space,Chain 1)
3DC in the next Chain 1 Space,Chain 1.

Repeat untill you reach the last corner , slip stitch to end the round
I stopped at this round.

You can make your placemat bigger by repeating the Round 4.

Just Note:-

Start each round by making slip stitches untill you reach the Chain space.

The Corners will have:-
Chain 2(consider as 1 Double Crochet)
2 Double Crochet
Chain 2.
3 Double Crochet in the same Chain 3 Space.

Chain 1

Every Chain 1 Space will have:-

3 Double Crochet,Chain 1.

Border:-

Change to Green Yarn.

The Border I have made with Reverse Single Crochet.

Start the round with Chain 1,1 Reverse single crochet in the rest of the stitches.

This stitch is similar to the standard single crochet, but instead of inserting your hook in the next stitch to your "RIGHT" you insert your hook into the next stitch to the "LEFT" and create your Single Crochet stitch there.

To make a Reverse Single Crochet:-

  1. Insert your hook,in the next stitch to the right.
  2. Yarn over, and draw the yarn through the stitch.
  3. Yarn over and draw the yarn through the 2 loops on the hook.

Once you reach the corner,

Chain 3,Slip stitch on the 1st Chain.( This is one  Picot Stitch made).

Continue with Reverse Single Crochet.

Make Picot Stitch in every corner stitch and reverse single crochet on the edges.

Slip stitch to end the round and weave off the yarn.
