Crochet Picot Flower Square Motif

Square Motifs are the simplest pattern. They are quick to whip up. You can make them in any size with one pattern. You can join and crochet them into any project of your choice.....Blankets, Pillow Covers, Placemats, Tablemats, Doilies, Coasters.....the ideas are unlimited.

Today am sharing the pattern for this Pretty and Quick to make Picot Flower Square Motif. You can use this motif to create a totally new project or use them as a applique for your already finished project or they would also make awesome coasters for your mugs!!!!

This motif measures 4 inches. If you wish to make them bigger, then keeping repeating the last round untill you reach the size needed.




Materials Used:-
  • Cotton Knitting Yarn(Grey , Purple and Green)
  • 4mm Crochet Hook



Size:-
4 inches(can be customized to any size required)

Round 1:-(Grey Color)
Start with a magic circle.
Chain 4(Chain 3 will be counted as 1 Double Crochet, Chain 1 will be counted as Chain 1 space.
1 Double Crochet.
Chain 1.
Repeat*(1DC, Chain 1) untill you have 8 Chain spaces.
Slip  stitch into the 3rd Chain to end the round.
While making the slip stitch, change to Purple color.




Round 2:-(Purple Color)
Slip Stitch into the chain space.
1 Picot Flower Petal
Chain 5
1 Single Crochet into the next Chain space.
Repeat*(1 Picot Flower Petal, Chain 5, 1 Single Crochet)
Slip stitch to end the round.
Change to Grey color while making the slip stitch.

How to Make a Picot Flower Petal:-
  • Chain 3.
  • 2 Double Crochet in the same stitch.
  • Chain 3.
  • Slip Stitch to the 1st Chain.
  • This Makes the Picot Stitch.
  • 2 Double Crochet in the same stitch.
  • Chain 3.
  • Slip Stitch in the same stitch.
  • This is One Petal made.






Round 3:-(Grey Color)
Chain 5.
Go Below the Picot Petal and Slip Stitch into the Chain space from the previous round.
1 Picot Flower Petal in the Chain Space.
Repeat*(1 Picot Flower Petal, Chain 5)
Slip Stitch in to the chain space to end the round.
Change to Green color while making the slip stitch.



This is how the backside will look.

Round 4:-(Green Color)
Chain 2(Not counted as a stitch)
3 Double Crochets.
Slip Stitch on the top of the Picot Flower.
3 Double Crochets.
Chain 5.
Repeat((3DC, Slip Stitch, 3DC), Chain 5).
Slip stitch on top of the first double crochet to end the round.




Round 5:-(Green Color)
Chain 2(Not counted as a stitch)
1 Double Crochet in the same stitch.
1 Double Crochet each in the remaining 6 stitches( make 1 DC on the Picot Stitch as well).
Now you would have reached the Chain space.
3 Double Crochet in the chain space.
3 Double Crochets on top of the Picot Flower(This will form the corner for the square)
3 Double Crochet in the same chain space.
Repeat*(1DC*7,(3DC(in space),3 DC(on Picot),3DC(in space))
Slip stitch on top of the first double crochet and weave off.

If you wish to make the square bigger, then repeat this round untill you reach the size needed.








Here is the Summary of the Pattern:-

Round 1

Start with a magic circle.

1 Double Crochet.

Chain 1.

Repeat*(1DC, Chain 1) untill you have 8 Chain spaces.

Slip stitch to end the round.

Change to Grey color while making the slip stitch.

Round 3

Chain 5.

Go Below the Picot Petal and Slip Stitch into the Chain space from the previous round.

1 Picot Flower Petal in the Chain Space.

Repeat*(1 Picot Flower Petal, Chain 5)

Slip Stitch in to the chain space to end the round.

Change to Green color while making the slip stitch.

Round 4

Chain 2(Not counted as a stitch)

3 Double Crochets.

Slip Stitch on the top of the Picot Flower.

3 Double Crochets.

Chain 5.

Repeat((3DC, Slip Stitch, 3DC), Chain 5).

Slip stitch on top of the first double crochet to end the round.

Round 5

Chain 2(Not counted as a stitch)

1 Double Crochet in the same stitch.

1 Double Crochet each in the remaining 6 stitches( make 1 DC on the Picot Stitch as well).

Now you would have reached the Chain space.

3 Double Crochet in the chain space.

3 Double Crochets on top of the Picot Flower(This will form the corner for the square)

3 Double Crochet in the same chain space.

Repeat*(1DC*7,(3DC(in space),3 DC(on Picot),3DC(in space))

Slip stitch on top of the first double crochet and weave off.
