Make Your Own Chunky Yarn Basket

Looking for a place to store your supplies? You have come to the right place!!!! Make this handy Chunky Yarn Basket to store all your supplies. They are great for storing anything from hand towels.....toys....your crochet supplies and most of your other utilities.

You could also use this as a Gift basket or with Easter coming up , make them in pretty colors and use them as Easter Basket.

And yes.... I finally got to use my 12mm Crochet Hook.I have used Super Chunky yarn to make this basket. There are just so many reasons to love chunky yarns. They are soft, cozy and they work up pretty quickly .

Materials Used:-
  • Super Chunky Yarn
  • 12 mm Crochet Hook

Start with a Magic Circle.

Round 1:-

6 Single Crochet in the Circle.

Slip Stitch on to the first Single Crochet and pull the yarn end to close the magic circle.

Round 2:-

2 Single Crochet in each stitch around.(12)

Slip stitch to end the round.

Round 3:-

1 Single Crochet , 2 Single crochet in the next stitch.
Repeat *(1SC,2SC)* all around.(18)
Slip Stitch to end the round.

Round 4:-

1 Single Crochet, 1 Single Crochet, 2 Single crochet in the next stitch.
Repeat *(1SC,1SC,2SC)* all around.(24)
Slip Stitch to end the round.

Round 5:-

1 Single Crochet , 1 Single Crochet, 1 Single Crochet , 2 Single Crochet in the next stitch.

Repeat*(1SC,1SC,1SC,2SC)* all around(30)
Slip Stitch to end the round.

This base measures around 9 inches. I stopped the increase with this round.

If you wish to make your basket bigger then you can continue with the increases untill you reach the desired size.

Check out my post on How to Make a Flat Single Crochet Circle.

Round 6:-

This round we will work only in the back loops.

For working on back loops, instead of inserting your hook underneath the entire stitch, insert the hook in centre of the stitch, and exit underneath the back loop.

Make back loop single crochet in all stitches around.

This would create the ridged edge and form the bottom edge of the basket.

Slip stitch to end the round.

Round 7:-

1 Single Crochet in each stitch around.

Slip Stitch to end the round.

Repeat Round 7 untill you reach the height you need.

There you go...... your basket is ready.....use it to store your Yarn Stash.......or your other utilities......!!!!

In my case, my kiddo was ready with her toys to fill up the basket!!!!!!

  1. These chunky baskets are so useful. They can be used for storing pretty much anything, although the idea of a yarn stash probably appeals most to me!

  5. I used your pattern to crochet baskets out of kitchen twine (size F hook) for my favorite kids’ Barbie dream house. I’m not sure if they’re impressed yet 😎, but I am! Thank you!
