Beaming Crochet Afghan Square Part of Melange Blanket CAL


Crochet Squares or the Crochet Granny Squares are my favourite things to crochet. These are the most versatile projects to make where you can let your imagination take a stride. The Basic Crochet Square is a Crochet Motif that is started off with a Circle which is worked in the rounds to be Finished off with a Square shape. 

The Basic Crocheted Granny Squares are usually around 6 to 7 inches in size. You can use them as it is or you can join them to make big Crochet Blankets , Clothing Accessories , Bags , Tablemats and Placemats.

Today am sharing the pattern for Beaming Crochet Afghan Square. This is a Part of the Melange Blanket CAL which is being hosted by Marie from Underground Crafter.





Materials Used:-
Worsted Weight Yarn
6 mm Crochet Hook

Size:-
6 inches- Customizable to any size

Notes:-
  1. For this whole Pattern, the Starting Chain 2 is not counted as a stitch. It is Just to bring the yarn to a working height. Start the next stitch in the same stitch.
  2. Change yarn color for the corners.
  3. To have a neat finish - Change the yarn color While Pulling through the last Two loops of the last stitch before the corner.
Abbreviations Used:-
Ch - Chain
DC - Double Crochet
Sk - Skip
SL - Slip Stitch
FPDC - Front Post Double Crochet
St/Sts - Stitch/Stitches

Let's Start:-

Round 1:-
Start with a Magic Circle.
Chain 2(Not Counted as a stitch)
12 Double Crochets in the circle.
Pull the yarn end to close the gap.
Slip Stitch on top of the first Double Crochet.
12 Stitches.



Round 2:-

Chain 2.
1 Double Crochet in the same stitch.
While Pulling through the last Two loops, change  the yarn color.
1 Front Post Double Crochet in the same stitch.
While Pulling through the last Two loops, change  the yarn color.
Repeat*(1DC,1FPDC in same stitch)
Slip Stitch on top of the first Double Crochet.
24 Stitches(12 DCs,12FPDCs) 









Round 3:-

Chain 2.
1 Double Crochet each in 5 Stitches.
Change the Yarn color While Pulling through the last Two loops of the last stitch,
(1 Double Crochet, Chain 1, 1 Double Crochet)-all in the same stitch, that's the 1st Corner made.
Repeat((1DC*5),(1DC,Ch1,1DC))
*Change the yarn color for the Corners
Slip Stitch on top of the 1st Double Crochet.
28 Stitches and 4 Chain 1 Spaces.







Round 4:-

Chain 2.
1 Double Crochet in each stitch untill 1 stitch just before the corner - that's total 5 Stitches.
Change the Yarn color While Pulling through the last Two loops of the last stitch,
(1 Double Crochet ,1 Front Post Double Crochet in the same stitch)-that's total 2 stitches in the same stitch.
(1 Double Crochet, Chain 2, 1 Double Crochet)-all in the same stitch, that's the Corner made.
Repeat((1DC*5),(1DC,1FPDC),(1DC,Ch2,1DC))
*Change the yarn color for One Stitch before the corner.
Slip Stitch on top of the 1st Double Crochet.
44 Stitches and 4 Chain 2 Spaces.











Round 5:-

Chain 2.
1 Double Crochet in each stitch untill 1 stitch just before the corner.
Change the Yarn color While Pulling through the last Two loops of the last stitch,
(1 Double Crochet ,1 Front Post Double Crochet in the same stitch)-that's total 2 stitches in the same stitch.
(1 Double Crochet, Chain 2, 1 Double Crochet)-all in the same stitch, that's the Corner made.
Repeat((1DC in each St untill 1 St before the corner),(1DC,1FPDC),(1DC,Ch2,1DC))
*Change the yarn color for One Stitch before the corner.
Once you have made the last corner, you will have 2 Stitches left.
Make 1 Double Crochet each in the last 2 Stitches.
Slip Stitch on top of the 1st Double Crochet.
60 Stitches and 4 Chain 2 Spaces.







Round 6:-

Chain 2.
1 Double Crochet in each stitch untill 1 stitch just before the corner.
Change the Yarn color While Pulling through the last Two loops of the last stitch,
(1 Double Crochet ,1 Front Post Double Crochet in the same stitch)-that's total 2 stitches in the same stitch.
(1 Double Crochet, Chain 2, 1 Double Crochet)-all in the same stitch, that's the Corner made.
Repeat((1DC in each St untill 1 St before the corner),(1DC,1FPDC),(1DC,Ch2,1DC))
*Change the yarn color for One Stitch before the corner.
Once you have made the last corner, you will have 4 Stitches left.
Make 1 Double Crochet each in the last 4 Stitches.
Slip Stitch on top of the 1st Double Crochet.
76 Stitches and 4 Chain 2 Spaces.









This Afghan Block measures 6 inches. If you wish to make a larger size Block or Blanket you can keep repeating the increase pattern.

Below is the increase pattern:-

Round 7:-
Ch2.Repeat((1DC in each St untill 1 St before the corner),(1DC,1FPDC),(1DC,Ch2,1DC))
Make 1DC each in the last 6 Sts.
SL on top of the 1st DC.
72 Sts and 4 Ch2 Spaces.

Round 8:-
Ch2.Repeat((1DC in each St untill 1 St before the corner),(1DC,1FPDC),(1DC,Ch2,1DC))
Make 1DC each in the last 8 Sts.
SL on top of the 1st DC.
108 Sts and 4 Ch2 Spaces.

Round 9:-
Ch2.Repeat((1DC in each St untill 1 St before the corner),(1DC,1FPDC),(1DC,Ch2,1DC))
Make 1DC each in the last 10 Sts.
SL on top of the 1st DC.
124 Sts and 4 Ch2 Spaces.

.......and so on...!!!!


Here is the Summary of the Pattern:-

Round 1:-

28 Sts and 4 Ch1 Spaces.

Round 4:-
Ch2.
1DC in each St untill 1 St just before the corner - that's total 5 Sts.
Change the Yarn color While Pulling through the last Two loops of the last St,
(1DC ,1 FPDC in the same St)-that's total 2 Sts in the same St.
(1DC, Ch2, 1DC)-all in the same St, that's the Corner made.
Repeat((1DC*5),(1DC,1FPDC),(1DC,Ch2,1DC))
*Change the yarn color for One St before the corner.
SL on top of the 1st DC.
44 Sts and 4 Ch2 Spaces.

Round 5:-
Ch2.
1DC in each St untill 1 St just before the corner.
Change the Yarn color While Pulling through the last Two loops of the last St,
(1DC ,1 FPDC in the same St)-that's total 2 Sts in the same St.
(1DC,Ch2,1DC)-all in the same St, that's the Corner made.

Once you have made the last corner, you will have 2 Sts left.
Make 1DC each in the last 2 Sts.
SL on top of the 1st DC.

Round 6:-
Ch2.
1DC in each St untill 1 St just before the corner.
Change the Yarn color While Pulling through the last Two loops of the last St,
(1DC,1FPDC in the same St)-that's total 2 Sts in the same St.
(1DC,Ch2,1DC)-all in the same St, that's the Corner made.

Once you have made the last corner, you will have 4 Sts left.
Make 1DC each in the last 4 Sts.

I'm a fairly new crocheter...and more or less self taught through watching YouTube videos. I don't really know how to read a pattern so having lots of pictures is very helpful. :)
