Easy to Make Crochet Hand Puppet

Looking for something to make for the kiddos? How about some hand puppets.Kids Love puppets, and hand puppets are one of the best ways to keep them entertained.Crochet Hand puppets are fun to make and fun to play with. Today I am Sharing a very simple pattern for this Crochet Hand Puppet. Even if you are a beginner, this would be very easy to whip up.

The puppet fits both adult and children's hands.

The finished puppet is approximately 10 inches in length, but the size may vary depending on the yarn you use and your hand tension.

Materials Used:-

• Yarn
• Black Yarn (For Eyes and Mouth)
• Yarn Needle

I have used 12 ply yarn for this puppet.You can use any yarn of your choice.

Round 1:-

Start with a Slip Knot.

Chain 30.

Slip Stitch in the first chain.

This measures around 5''.

Before making the slip stitch, wrap it around your wrist and check the size.

If you find the size to be small, then you can increase the number of chain stitches.

This pattern is adjustable according to the size you require.

Round 2:-
Chain 1(This is not counted as stitch. This is just to bring the yarn to the height).

1 Single Crochet in each of the remaining stitches.

Once you reach the end, do not slip stitch.

We will be working in continuous rounds.

Round 3 to Round 12:-
1 Single Crochet in each stitch around.

Use a Stitch Marker to keep a count of your stitches.

Round 13:-
As already mentioned, this puppet is easily adjustable to any size. In this round we will make increase stitches.

The increases will be made at the start and one more increase exactly at the middle.

I started off with 30 stitches. So my increase will be at the 1st stitch and the next increase will be at the 15th stitch.

Even if you are not keeping a track of the stitches,you can easily find the midpoint and make the increases.

Lay the puppet flat and approximately find the midpoint , which would be exactly right across the first stitch. 

Mark it with a stitch marker.

2 Single Crochet in the first stitch.

1 Single Crochet in each of the next stitches untill you reach the midpoint.

2 Single Crochet in the mid point.(15th Stitch)
1 Single Crochet in each of the remaining stitches.

Round 14 & Round 15 :-
1 Single Crochet in each stitch around(32 Stitches.)

Round 16:-

2 Single Crochet in the first stitch.

1 Single Crochet in each of the next stitches untill you reach the midpoint.

2 Single Crochet in the mid point.(16th Stitch)
1 Single Crochet in each of the remaining stitches.

Round 17 & Round 18:-
1 Single Crochet in each stitch around(34 Stitches.)

Round 19:-

2 Single Crochet in the first stitch.

1 Single Crochet in each of the next stitches untill you reach the midpoint.

2 Single Crochet in the mid point.(17th Stitch)
1 Single Crochet in each of the remaining stitches.

Total 36 stitches at the end of the round.

Cut off the yarn at this round.

Round 20:-
In this round we will make the gaps for the Thumb and Pinky finger.

Count back 5 Stitches from the point which you have cut off the yarn and mark it with a stitch marker.

Count the next 10 stitches(from the stitch where you have put the stitch marker) and mark it with a Stitch Marker.

This will be the Gap for the Thumb.

Do the same at the other side and mark the gap for the Pinky Finger.

(Lay the puppet flat and approximately find the midpoint , which would be exactly right across the first stitch.)

You will be skipping these stitches.The Thumb and Pinky space will be made after we finish the head of the puppet.

Again lay your puppet flat, join the yarn and make 1 single crochet on each of the stitches untill you reach the thumb gap.

Skip the 10 stitches made for the Thumb Gap. Directly insert your hook on the other side and continue with  1 Single Crochet in each of the remaining stitches.

Round 21 to Round 23:-
1 Single Crochet in each stitch around.

Round 24 :-
Again, lay the puppet flat and approximately find the midpoint , which would be exactly right across the first stitch. Mark it with a Stitch Marker.

2 Single Crochet on the first stitch, 1 Single Crochet each in the next stitches untill you reach the mid point.

2 Single Crochet on the Mid point, 1 Single Crochet each in the remaining stitches.

Round 25 to Round 26:-
1 Single Crochet in each stitch.

Round 27:-
Repeat *(1 Single Crochet Decrease,1 Single Crochet, 1 Single Crochet Decrease)

To make a Single Crochet Decrease:-

Insert hook and draw up a loop in each of the next two stitches (three loops on the hook),Yarn over and draw through all three loops on the hook.

Round 28 :-
1 Single Crochet in each stitch

Round 30 :-
1 Single Crochet Decrease in each stitch around and weave off the yarn.

If you started your project with more number of stitches, then you may have continue the Decrease Stitches untill you have no gap left.

Round 31:-
Go back to the stitches you have left for the Thumb and Pinky finger.

Join the yarn, 1 Single Crochet in each stitch around.

Round 32 to Round 34:-
1 Single Crochet in each stitch.

Round 35:-
1 Single Crochet Decrease in each stitch around.

Close gaps if any and weave off the yarn.

Repeat the same for the Pinky Finger.

To make The Eyes:-
Use Black Yarn.

Make a Magic Circle and 6 Single crochet in the circle.

Pull the yarn end to close the gap and weave off the yarn.

Repeat the same for the other Eye.

Using a Yarn Needle, Sew both the eyes.

Using the same color yarn, sew a smiley mouth.

You can use a Red color yarn too.

Weave off the yarn ends if any.

There you go...... the puppet is ready for the show!!!!!!

Round 1:-

Round 19:-
2 Single Crochet in the first stitch.
1 Single Crochet in each of the next stitches untill you reach the midpoint.

2 Single Crochet in the mid point.(17th Stitch)
1 Single Crochet in each of the remaining stitches.
Total 36 stitches at the end of the round.
Cut off the yarn at this round.

Round 20:-
Count back 5 Stitches from the point which you have cut off the yarn and mark it with a stitch marker.
Count the next 10 stitches(from the stitch where you have put the stitch marker) and mark it with a Stitch Marker.
This will be the Gap for the Thumb.
Do the same at the other side and mark the gap for the Pinky Finger.
(Lay the puppet flat and approximately find the midpoint , which would be exactly right across the first stitch.)

Round 25 to Round 26:-
1 Single Crochet in each stitch.

Round 27:-
Repeat *(1 Single Crochet Decrease,1 Single Crochet, 1 Single Crochet Decrease)

Round 28 :-
1 Single Crochet in each stitch

Round 30 :-
1 Single Crochet Decrease in each stitch around and weave off the yarn.

Round 31:-
Go back to the stitches you have left for the Thumb and Pinky finger.
Join the yarn, 1 Single Crochet in each stitch around.

Round 32 to Round 34:-
1 Single Crochet in each stitch.

Round 35:-
1 Single Crochet Decrease in each stitch around.
Close gaps if any and weave off the yarn.

Repeat the same for the Pinky Finger.

To make The Eyes:-
Use Black Yarn.
Make a Magic Circle and 6 Single crochet in the circle.
Pull the yarn end to close the gap and weave off the yarn.
Repeat the same for the other Eye.
Using a Yarn Needle, Sew both the eyes.
Using the same color yarn, sew a smiley mouth.
