Super Easy Crochet Table Runner


Crochet Table runners are an easy way to change the look of your table.  Handmade Crochet table runners are quite appealing and pleasing. Adding a hand crocheted table runner is an easy way to add some personal touch and elegance to your dining decor.

Today am sharing the pattern for a Super Easy Crochet Table Runner. Its a easy to make pattern which works up quick. The Pattern uses Puff Stitch and Double Crochet Three Together Stitch. These two stitches worked together gives the lovely textured finish.

Crocheted Table Runners are versatile. You can make them in any size of your need. You can also color code them according to the holiday seasons. They make awesome gifts for any occasion.




Materials Used:-
4 Ply Cotton Knitting Yarn
4 mm Crochet Hook

Size:-
Base - 8 inches - Customizable to any size
Length - Customizable to any size

Abbreviations Used:-
Ch - Chain
DC - Double Crochet
SC - Single Crochet
St/Sts - Stitch/Stitches
DC3TOG - Double Crochet 3 Together
YO - Yarn Over

Let's Start:-

Round 1:-
Start with a Slip Knot.
Chain 36.
This measures around 8 inches.
You can adjust the size of the Table Runner by altering these stitches according to your requirement.
Start with any number Multiple of 3.


Round 2:-
1 Single Crochet in the 3rd Chain from the hook.
1 Single Crochet each in the remaining stitches.
Once you reach end, Chain 2 and use the Straight Edge Turning Chain to make the turning chain.

Straight Edge Turning Chain:-
Usually you would Chain 2, turn and start working the next round. Here is a quick tip to have a nice straight edge .
  • Insert the hook into the 1st chain from the bottom.
  • Yarn over and pull up a loop. You should have 2 loops on the hook.
  • Turn your project and insert the hook into the first stitch.
  • Yarn over and pull up a loop. You will have 3 loops on the hook.
  • Again, yarn over and pull through 2 loops. You will have 2 loops on the hook.
  • Lastly, yarn over and pull through 2 loops.
  • This will make one Double Crochet.

Round 3:-
(1 Double Crochet is already made while making the turning chain)
1 Double Crochet 3 Together Stitch(Cluster) - To Start the Stitch , insert your hook at the end of the previous stitch.
1 Puff Stitch in between the Start of the DC3TOG St. and the previous Stitch.(i.e in between the previous stitch and the DC3TOG)
Repeat(1DC3TOG,1Puff(in btw the start of DC3TOG and the Previous St)
1 Single Crochet (i.e at the end of the last Puff Stitch)
1 Double Crochet in the last Stitch.
Chain 1 and turn your work.

To Make a Double Crochet 3 Together Stitch(Cluster) :-
  1. Yarn over, insert the hook into the stitch, yarn over and pull through 2 loops on the hook.(This is same as doing a Double Crochet Stitch. It is just that , you don't finish the Double Crochet Stitch and continue doing the first part of the Double Crochet Stitch again and again).You should have 2 loops on the hook.
  2. Yarn over, insert the hook in the next stitch, yarn over and pull through 2 loops. You should have 3 loops on the hook.
  3. Yarn over, insert the hook in the next stitch, yarn over and pull through 2 loops. You should have 4 loops on the hook.
  4. Yarn over and draw the yarn through all 4 loops on the hook.
To make a Puff Stitch:-
  1. First pull up the yarn on the hook to a height of a double crochet.
  2. Yarn Over, insert hook in the same stitch and pull up a loop. Do not complete the stitch(3 loops on the hook)
  3. Again, Yarn Over, insert hook in the same stitch and pull up a loop.(5 Loops on the hook).
  4. Again, Yarn Over, insert hook in the same stitch and pull up a loop.(7 Loops on the hook).
  5. Lastly, Yarn Over, insert hook in the same stitch and pull up a loop.(9 loops on the hook).
  6. To finish the Puff stitch, Yarn Over and Pull through all the loops.

Round 4:-
1 Single Crochet in each stitch.
Once you reach end, Chain 1 and turn your work.
(35 Stitches)

Round 5:-
1 Single Crochet in each stitch.
Once you reach end, Chain 1 and turn your work.

Round 6:-
1 Single Crochet in each stitch.
Once you reach end, Chain 2 and use the Straight Edge Turning Chain method to make the turning chain.

Straight Edge Turning Chain:-
Usually you would Chain 2, turn and start working the next round. Here is a quick tip to have a nice straight edge .
  • Insert the hook into the 1st chain from the bottom.

  • This will make one Double Crochet.

Round 7:-
Keep repeating Round 3, Round 4, Round 5 & Round 6 untill the size needed and weave off.

Here is the Summary of the Pattern:-

Round 1:-

1 Puff St in between the Start of the DC3TOG St. and the previous St.(i.e in between the previous St and the DC3TOG)
Repeat(1DC3TOG,1Puff(in btw the start of DC3TOG and the Previous St)
1 SC (i.e at the end of the last Puff St)
1 DC in the last St.
Ch 1 and turn your work.

To Make a DC3TOG(Cluster) :-
YO, insert the hook into the St, YO and pull through 2 loops on the hook.(This is same as doing a DC St. It is just that , you don't finish the DC St and continue doing the first part of the DC St again and again).You should have 2 loops on the hook.
YO, insert the hook in the next St, YO and pull through 2 loops. You should have 3 loops on the hook.
YO, insert the hook in the next St, YO and pull through 2 loops. You should have 4 loops on the hook.
YO and draw the yarn through all 4 loops on the hook.

To make a Puff St:-
First pull up the yarn on the hook to a height of a DC.
YO, insert hook in the same St and pull up a loop. Do not complete the St(3 loops on the hook)
Again, YO, insert hook in the same St and pull up a loop.(5 Loops on the hook).
Again, YO, insert hook in the same St and pull up a loop.(7 Loops on the hook).
Lastly, YO, insert hook in the same St and pull up a loop.(9 loops on the hook).
To finish the Puff St, YO and Pull through all the loops.

Round 4:-
1 SC in each St.
Once you reach end, Ch 1 and turn your work.
(35 Sts)

Round 5:-
1 SC in each St.
Once you reach end, Ch 1 and turn your work.

Round 6:-
1 SC in each St.
Once you reach end, Ch 2 and use the Straight Edge Turning Ch method to make the turning Ch.
