The Crochet Even Moss Stitch is a super easy stitch pattern that uses Half Double Crochets and Slip Stitches. Often simple Crochet Stitches combined with other stitches create a lovely textured new stitch. These Two Stitches worked together creates a beautifully thick and dense textured finish.
Today am sharing the tutorial on How To Make The Crochet Even Moss Stitch . This stitch works best for Crochet Washcloths and Dishcloths. Its a fairly quick and fast working stitch and suitable for large crochet projects like Crocheted Blankets, Mats , Rugs, Table Runners and Clothing Accessories.

Worsted Weight Yarn
5 mm Crochet Hook
5 mm Crochet Hook

HDC - Half Double Crochet

Round 2:-
1 Half Double Crochet in the 3rd Chain from the hook.
1 Slip Stitch in the next stitch.
Repeat(1HDC, 1SL)
Once you reach end, Chain 2 and use the Straight Edge Turning Chain to make the Turning Chain.
Straight Edge Turning Chain:-
Usually you would Chain 2, turn and start working the next round. Here is a quick tip to have a nice straight edge .
- Insert the hook into the 1st chain from the bottom.
- Yarn over and pull up a loop. You should have 2 loops on the hook.
- Turn your project and insert the hook into the first stitch.
- Yarn over and pull up a loop. You will have 3 loops on the hook.
- Lastly, yarn over and pull through all the 3 loops.
- This will make one Half Double Crochet.
Round 3:-
1 Half Double Crochet is already made with the Turning Chain.
1 Slip Stitch in the next stitch.
Repeat(1HDC, 1SL)
Once you reach end, Chain 2 and use the Straight Edge Turning Chain mentioned in the previous round to make the Turning Chain.
Round 4 Onwards:-
Keep Repeating Round 3 untill the size needed and Weave off.
Here is the Summary of the Pattern:-
Round 1:-
Start with a slip knot.
Ch 20.
You can increase or decrease these starting Ch Sts to make it according to the size needed.
Start with any Multiple of 2.
Round 2:-
1HDC in the 3rd Ch from the hook.
1SL in the next St.
Repeat(1HDC, 1SL)
Once you reach end, Ch 2 and use the Straight Edge Turning Ch to make the Turning Ch.
Straight Edge Turning Ch:-
Usually you would Ch 2, turn and start working the next round. Here is a quick tip to have a nice straight edge .

YO and pull up a loop. You should have 2 loops on the hook.
Turn your project and insert the hook into the first St.

Lastly, YO and pull through all the 3 loops.
This will make one HDC.
Round 3:-
1HDC is already made with the Turning Ch.
1SL in the next St.
Repeat(1HDC, 1SL)
Once you reach end, Ch 2 and use the Straight Edge Turning Ch mentioned in the previous round to make the Turning Ch.
Round 4 Onwards:-
Keep Repeating Round 3untill the size needed and Weave off.
