There are so many ways to crochet an oval shape. Knowing how to crochet the basic oval shapes would be useful for so many of your Oval Based Crochet Projects. Today am sharing the basic Double Crochet Oval Pattern which I use to make most of my Oval based crochet projects.
You can use this basic pattern to make Rugs... Placemats...Bags ...Doilies!!!! The base is worked in rounds , by making a slip stitch at end of each round. You can just change the starting number of stitches to suit it according to your crochet project.
Materials Used:-
- 8 Ply Yarn
- 4mm Crochet Hook
Here is the Video Tutorial:-
Start with a Slip Knot.
Chain 12.
1 Double Crochet in the 2nd Chain from the Hook.
1 Double Crochet in each of the next stitches untill you reach the last stitch.
6 Double Crochet in the last stitch.
Continue working on the other side. 1 Double Crochet in each of the stitches untill the last stitch.
6 Double Crochet in the Last Stitch.
Slip Stitch on the 1st Double Crochet.
Start with Chain 2.(Not Counted as a stitch)
1 Double Crochet in the same stitch.
1 Double Crochet on each stitch untill you reach the 6 Double Crochets.
2 Double Crochet each on the 6 Double Crochet Set.
Working on the other side, continue with 1 Double Crochet in rest of the stitches untill you reach the next 6 Double Crochet set.
Again , 2 Double Crochet each on the 6 Double Crochet set.
Slip Stitch to end the round.
Round 3:-
Start with Chain 2.(Not Counted as a stitch)
1 Double Crochet in the same stitch.
1 Double Crochet each on the next stitches untill you reach the corner.(i.e. the 1 stitch of the 2 Double crochet)
1 Double Crochet (on the 1st Double Crochet of 6 Double Crochet set)
2 Double Crochet on the next stitch.
Repeat(1 Double Crochet, 2 Double Crochet)* on the rest of the 6 Double Crochets set.
1 Double Crochet each on the rest of the stitches untill you reach the start of the next Corner.
Repeat the same on the corner too:-
1 Double Crochet (on the 1st Double Crochet of 6 Double Crochet set)
2 Double Crochet on the next stitch.
Repeat(1 Double Crochet, 2 Double Crochet)* on the rest of the 6 Double Crochets set.
Slip Stitch to end the round.

Can’t wait to use this pattern to make a simple doormat! Can I start with a longer chain for a wider oval and follow the same instructions for the corners? (ie 6 double crochets at the end and follow the pattern from there? Or will I need more/less double crochets at the end?) thank you for this 😊
ReplyDeleteThank you so much ☺️☺️...
Delete... The pattern for increasing will be the same.👍😊
Thank you for the pattern. By far the easiest I've ever tried... Tried a few others but quite hard to follow. Thank you again
ReplyDeleteGlad it was helpful 😊.. thank you so much 😊.
DeleteThis is easy to understand. Other directions I've found weren't this helpful. thanks for posting!
ReplyDeleteThank You 😊😊
DeleteWhat a great instructional pattern for oval bases! Using 6 double crochets (6dc) in the 2 end corners is what I was missing from my oval bases as I was using only 3 dc’s at the “end” of the row. This tutorial pattern will be awesome for the small rugs I’m going to crochet. I can’t wait to get started on them especially now that I have this pattern to work from. THANK YOU!!!
