The Everyday Crochet Ribbed Beanie

There is a reason ribbed beanies are an absolute classic. They are incredibly stretchy, wonderfully thick, and have a timeless style that looks great on absolutely everyone. Whether you are crocheting a quick gift, prepping inventory for your next craft market, or just treating yourself to a cozy new accessory, The Crochet Ribbed Beanie is the pattern you will find yourself making again and again.

Today am sharing the pattern for The Everyday Crochet Ribbed Beanie. This beanie pattern is absolutely easy and quick to make. I made this as a part of the Crochet for Charity Blog Hop 2026 hosted by Assia from The Crochet Village.

This hat is worked completely flat as a simple rectangle. No working in the round, no complicated crown decreases, and no stressful counting. Once your rectangle is done, you simply seam the sides and gather the top! It's that easy to whip up.

By working the Half Double Crochet stitches only into the back loops only, we create deep, bouncy ridges that perfectly mimic a classic knit rib. It’s thick, incredibly squishy, and holds its shape beautifully.

Materials Used:-

Speckled Cotton Yarn - 1 Skein 
5mm Crochet hook

Size:-

10 Inches- Can be customized to any size

Let's Start:-

Round 1:-

Start with a Slip Knot.

Chain 47.

You can adjust the size  altering these stitches according to your requirement.

Start with any Number of Chains.

Round 2:-

1 Slip Stitch In the 2nd Chain from the hook.

1 Slip Stitch each into the next 7 Stitches.(this would make total 8 Slip Stitches)

1 Half Double Crochet in each of the remaining stitches.

Once you reach end, Chain 2 and use the Straight Edge Turning Chain to make the Turning Chain.

**The next Round onwards we will be working only into the Back Loops, so make the Turning Chain into the Backloop Only.

Straight Edge Turning Chain:-

Usually you would Chain 2, turn and start working the next round. Here is a quick tip to have a nice straight edge .

• Insert the hook into the 1st chain from the bottom.
• Yarn over and pull up a loop. You should have 2 loops on the hook.
• Turn your project and insert the hook into the Backloop of the first stitch.
• Yarn over and pull up a loop. You will have 3 loops on the hook.
• Lastly, yarn over and pull through all the 3 loops.
• This will make one Back Loop Half Double Crochet.

Round 3:-

**This round we will be working only in the Back loops.

1 Back Loop Half Double Crochet is already made with the Turning Chain.

1 Back Loop Half Double Crochet into each of the stitches untill you reach the Slip Stitches.

1 Back Loop Slip Stitch in each of the 8 Slip Stitches.

Once you reach end, Chain 1 and turn your work. 

Round 4:-

1 Back Loop Slip Stitch in each of the 8 Slip Stitches.

1 Back Loop Half Double Crochet into each of the remaining stitches.

Once you reach end, Chain 2 and use the Straight Edge Turning Chain mentioned in Round 2 to make the Turning Chain.

Round 5 Onwards:-

Keep Repeating Round 3 and Round 4 untill its around 34 to 35 inches in size or untill the size needed.

Joining:-

Fold your work in half.

Join both the ends with 1 Slip Stitch in each of the stitches .

Be sure to align the stitches in line with each other .

Leave a long tail and weave off.

Top of the Hat:-

Using a yarn needle, make running stitches on top of the hat.

Pull the yarn end to close the opening.

If required, make few more stitches on the top to make it secure.

Turn the Hat inside out and weave off the extra yarn ends.

Here is the Summary of the Pattern:-

Round 1:-

Round 4:-

1 BLSL in each of the 8 SLes.

1 BLHDC into each of the remaining Sts.

Once you reach end, Ch 2 and use the Straight Edge Turning Ch mentioned in Round 2 to make the Turning Ch.

Round 5 Onwards:-

Keep Repeating Round 3 and Round 4 untill its around 34 to 35 inches in size or untill the size needed.
