Rabbit Bunny Crochet Hand Puppet

With Easter coming up, I decided to make some Bunny related crochet project. Today I'm sharing the Pattern for this Cute Rabbit Bunny Hand Puppet. Crochet Hand puppets are the easiest and quickest projects to whip up.

I have used Eyelash yarn which gives the puppet a soft and fluffy look. This pattern is adjustable according to the size you require. My Puppet measures 10'' in Length and 5'' in Width.

Materials Used:-
  • Eyelash Yarn
  • Any worsted weight Yarn (Pink and Black Color)
  • 5 mm Crochet Hook
  • Tapestry Needle

Here is the Video Tutorial:-

Round 1:-
Start with a Slip Knot.
Chain 30.
Slip Stitch in the first chain.

This measures around 5''.
Before making the slip stitch, wrap it around your wrist and check the size.
If you find the size to be big or small, then you can increase or decrease the number of chain stitches.

Round 2:-
Chain 1(This is not counted as stitch. This is just to bring the yarn to the height).
1 Single Crochet in the same.
1 Single Crochet in each of the remaining stitches.
Once you reach the end, do not slip stitch.
We will be working in continuous rounds.
30 Stitches.
Round 3 to Round 12:-
1 Single Crochet in each stitch around.

Use a Stitch Marker to keep a count of your stitches.

Round 13:-
2 Single Crochets in the first stitch.
1 Single Crochet each in the remaining stitches untill the 15th Stitch.
2 Single Crochets in the 15 the Stitch.
1 Single Crochet each in the remaining stitches.
32 stitches.

The increases will be made at the start and one more increase exactly on the opposite side of the first stitch.

I started off with 30 stitches. So my increase will be at the 1st stitch and the next increase will be at the 15th stitch.

Even if you are not keeping a track of the stitches, you can easily find the midpoint and make the increases.

Lay the puppet flat and approximately find the midpoint , which would be exactly right on opposite side of  the first stitch.

Round 14 & Round 15 :-
1 Single Crochet in each stitch around.
32 Stitches
Round 16:-
2 Single Crochet in the first stitch.
1 Single Crochet in each of the next stitches untill you reach the midpoint on the opposite side of the first stitch.(16th Stitch)
2 Single Crochet in the mid point.(16th Stitch)
1 Single Crochet in each of the remaining stitches.
34 stitches.
Round 17 & Round 18:-
1 Single Crochet in each stitch around(34 Stitches.)
Round 19:-
2 Single Crochet in the first stitch.
1 Single Crochet in each of the next stitches untill you reach the midpoint.
2 Single Crochet in the mid point.(17th Stitch)
1 Single Crochet in each of the remaining stitches.
Cut off the yarn at the end of this round.
36 stitches
Round 20:-
In this round we will make the gaps for the Thumb and Pinky finger.

Count back 5 Stitches from the point which you have cut off the yarn and mark it with a stitch marker.

Count the next 10 stitches(from the stitch where you have put the stitch marker) and mark it with a Stitch Marker.

This will be the Gap for the Thumb.

Do the same at the other side and mark the gap for the Pinky Finger.

(Lay the puppet flat and approximately find the midpoint , which would be exactly right across the first stitch.)

You will be skipping these stitches. The Thumb and Pinky space will be made after we finish the head of the puppet.

  • Again lay your puppet flat, join the yarn and make 1 single crochet on each of the stitches untill you reach the thumb gap.
  • Skip the 10 stitches made for the Thumb Gap. Directly insert your hook on the other side and continue with  1 Single Crochet in each of the remaining stitches.

Round 21 :-
1 Single Crochet in each stitch around.

Round 22:-
1 Single Crochet, 2 Single Crochet
Repeat*(1SC,2SC)
Round 23 to 27:-
1 Single Crochet in each stitch all around.
Round 28:-
1 Single Crochet each in the next two stitches
1 Single Crochet Decrease in the next stitch.
Repeat*(1SC,1SC, 1SC Decrease)

To make a Single Crochet Decrease:-
Insert hook and draw up a loop in each of the next two stitches (three loops on the hook),Yarn over and draw through all three loops on the hook.
Round 29 onwards:-
Keeping repeating Round 28 untill the gap is closed.

Thumb and Pinky Finger:-
Go back to the stitches you have left for the Thumb and Pinky finger and
Join the yarn,
4 Rounds of 1 Single Crochet in each stitch around.
Last round, make 1 Single Crochet decrease in each stitches around or untill the gap is closed.

Bunny Ears:-
Join yarn at the top of the Bunny Head.
Chain 12.
1 Double Crochet in the second chain from the hook.
1 Double Crochet each in the rest of the stitches.

Join back on the head with a single crochet.
1 Single Crochet each on the next 2 stitches.

Repeat the same for the second ear.
At the end , join on the head with a slip stitch.
Turn your project, and make 1 single crochet each on top of the Double Crochets(Sides of the Bunny Ears). This will give a neat edging to the Bunny Ears.

Bunny Eyes , Nose and Mouth:-
Use Black color yarn and sew the eyes.

Using Pink color yarn, sew the Bunny Mouth and Nose and weave off.
