Solid Double Crochet Mitered Square with No Gaps

Knowing how to crochet the basic crochet shapes would be useful for so many of your Crochet Projects. Be it of any shape ...Rectangle, Oval, Round, Square. You can make so many crochet projects with a simple crochet Base.

Crochet Squares are easy and super versatile. There are so many ways to whip a Crochet Square. Today am sharing the pattern to make a Solid Double Crochet Mitered Square. This pattern is simple made with Double Crochets and the crochet stitches are worked in between two stitches which makes the crochet square solid with no gaps.

A crochet mitered square can be made in a variety of different ways. You can make them in solid colors or the best would be using a variegated yarn and the way the are crocheted , end result has a tremendous visual effect. Crochet Mitered Squares are usually worked in diagonal from one corner of the square to the other.

Materials Used:-
8 Ply Yarn
4 mm Crochet Hook

Notes:-
For this pattern, instead of working in circle, each Round is made by working To and Fro. So to hide the difference in these Front side and the Back side rounds, we will be making the stitches in between each of two stitches i.e. Instead of inserting your hook only on top of the stitch, yarn over and insert your hook under the whole stitch.

Let's Start...!!!

Round 1:-
Start with a Magic Circle.
Chain 2 (Not Counted as a stitch)
5 Double Crochets.
Pull the yarn end to close the gap.
To make the turning Chain  2 and use the Straight Edge Turning Chain given below.

Straight Edge Turning Chain:-
Usually you would Chain 2, turn and start working the next round. Here is a quick tip to have a nice straight edge .
  • Insert the hook into the 1st chain from the bottom.
  • Yarn over and pull up a loop. You should have 2 loops on the hook.
  • Turn your project and insert the hook into the first stitch.
  • Yarn over and pull up a loop. You will have 3 loops on the hook.
  • Again, yarn over and pull through 2 loops. You will have 2 loops on the hook.
  • Lastly, yarn over and pull through 2 loops.
  • This will make one Double Crochet.

Round 2:-
(1 Double Crochet is already made while making the turning chain)
1 Double Crochet in the same stitch.(that's total 2 Double Crochets) - remember to make these stitches in between each stitch , as mentioned in the notes.
2 Double Crochets in the next stitch.
3 Double Crochets in the Next stitch.(Mark the middle stitch with a stitch marker(i.e. the Second Stitch of the 3 Double Crochets)This will form the corner of the square.)
2 Double Crochets each in the remaining stitches.
Once you reach the end Chain 2 and turn your project - Use the Straight Turning Chain method to make the turning chain.

Round 3:-
(1 Double Crochet is already made while making the turning chain)
1 Double Crochet in each stitch untill you reach the marked stitch.
3 Double Crochets in the marked stitch. (Mark the new corner with a stitch marker.
1 Double Crochet each in the remaining stitches.
Once you reach the end Chain 2 and turn your project - Use the Straight Turning Chain method to make the turning chain.

Round 4 Onwards:-
Keep repeating Round 3 untill the size needed.
