Ribbed Crochet Star Placemat


Crocheted decorative placemats are the best way to decorate and to a touch of personality to your home decor. Placemats are very versatile. You can color code them and make them according to the holiday season. By using different combination and variety of Crochet Stitches, you can give them a lovely textured look. 

With Christmas just around the corner, here is a crochet placemat which you can make to get into the holiday mood. Today am sharing the pattern for Ribbed Crochet Star Placemat. The Star shape of the placemat makes it perfect for Christmas Table Decor. The pattern is incredibly easy to make. The textured ribbed look is made with Back Post Double Crochets. Handmade crochet projects are the best as gifts for your family and loved ones.




Materials Used:-
4 Ply Cotton Knitting Yarn
4 mm Crochet Hook

Size:-
14 inches - Customizable to any size

Notes:-
For this whole Pattern, the Starting Chain 2 is not counted as a stitch. It is Just to bring the yarn to a working height. Start the next stitch in the same stitch.

Let's Start:-

Round 1:-
Start with a Magic Circle.
Chain 2.
12 Double Crochets in the circle.
Pull the yarn end to close the gap.
Slip Stitch on top of the first Double Crochet.



Round 2:-
Chain 2.
2 Backloop Double Crochets in each stitch around.
Slip stitch on top of the first Double Crochet.(make the slip stitch into both the loops)
24 stitches.



Round 3:-
Chain 2.
1 Back Loop V-Stitch in the first stitch.(i.e. 1 Back Loop Double Crochet, Chain 1 and 1 Back Loop Double Crochet in the same stitch.
Skip 1 stitch.
Repeat(1 BL V-Stitch, Skip 1)
Slip Stitch on top of the first Double Crochet.(make the Slip Stitch into both the loops)


Round 4:-
Slip Stitch into the Chain 1 Space and Chain 2.
In the chain space make - (2 Double Crochets , Chain 1, 2 Double Crochets )
Repeat(2DC , Ch1, 2 DC) in each of the Chain 1 spaces.
Slip Stitch on top of the first Double Crochet.



Round 5:-
Slip Stitch into the next Double Crochet and Chain 2.
1 Back Post Double Crochet.
In the chain space make - (2 Double Crochets , Chain 1, 2 Double Crochets )
1 Back Post Double Crochet in the next stitch.
Skip the next 2 stitches.
Repeat(1BPDC,((2DC , Ch1, 2 DC) - in the Ch space), 1BPDC, Skip 2).
Slip Stitch on top of the first Double Crochet.





Round 6:-
Slip Stitch into the next Double Crochet and Chain 2.
1 Back Post Double Crochet each in 2 stitches..
In the chain space make - (2 Double Crochets , Chain 1, 2 Double Crochets )
1 Back Post Double Crochet each in the next 2 stitch.
Skip the next 2 stitches.
Repeat(1BPDC*2,((2DC , Ch1, 2 DC) - in the Ch space), 1BPDC*2, Skip 2).
Slip Stitch on top of the first Double Crochet.




Round 7 to 10:-
Keep repeating the increase pattern for 4 more rounds or untill the size which you wish to make.

Remember to start each round with :-
Slip Stitch into the next Double Crochet and Chain 2.

Below is the increase repeat pattern:-

Round 7 :- (1BPDC*3,((2DC , Ch1, 2 DC) - in the Ch space), 1BPDC*3, Skip 2).
Slip Stitch on top of the first Double Crochet.
Round 8 :- (1BPDC*4,((2DC , Ch1, 2 DC) - in the Ch space), 1BPDC*4, Skip 2).
Slip Stitch on top of the first Double Crochet.
Round 9 :- (1BPDC*5,((2DC , Ch1, 2 DC) - in the Ch space), 1BPDC*5, Skip 2).
Slip Stitch on top of the first Double Crochet.
Round 10 :- (1BPDC*6,((2DC , Ch1, 2 DC) - in the Ch space), 1BPDC*6, Skip 2).
Slip Stitch on top of the first Double Crochet.
Round 11:- (1BPDC*7,((2DC , Ch1, 2 DC) - in the Ch space), 1BPDC*7, Skip 2).
Slip Stitch on top of the first Double Crochet.
Round 12:- (1BPDC*8,((2DC , Ch1, 2 DC) - in the Ch space), 1BPDC*8, Skip 2).
Slip Stitch on top of the first Double Crochet.

...... and so on...!!!!

**While making the last Slip Stitch, change the yarn color.






Border:-
Chain 1.
1 Single Crochet in each stitch untill the Chain 1 space.
In the Chain 1 space make - 3 Double Crochet , Chain 3 Picot (i.e. Chain 3 and make a Slip stitch into the bottom stitch), 2 Double Crochets.
1 Single Crochet in each stitch untill the dip.
1 Treble Crochet in the stitch from 1 Row below.
Repeat(1SC- in each stitch untill the Ch1 space, (3DC,Ch3 Picot,2DC), 1SC - in each stitch untill the dip,1 Trbl- in the stitch from 1 Row below)
Slip Stitch on top of the first Single Crochet and weave off.







Here is the Summary of the Pattern:-

Round 1:-
Start with a Magic Circle.
Ch 2.
12 DCs in the circle.

Ch 2.
2 BLDCs in each St around.
SL on top of the first DC.(make the SL into both the loops)
24 Sts.

Round 3:-

Skip 1 St.
Repeat(1 BL V-St, Skip 1)
SL on top of the first DC.(make the SL into both the loops)

Round 4:-
SL into the Ch 1 Space and Ch 2.
In the Ch space make - (2 DCs , Ch 1, 2 DCs )
Repeat(2DC , Ch1, 2 DC) in each of the Ch 1 spaces.
SL on top of the first DC.

Round 5:-
SL into the next DC and Ch 2.
1 Back Post DC.
In the Ch space make - (2 DCs , Ch 1, 2 DCs )
1 Back Post DC in the next St.
Skip the next 2 Sts.
Repeat(1BPDC,((2DC , Ch1, 2 DC) - in the Ch space), 1BPDC, Skip 2).
SL on top of the first DC.

Round 6:-
SL into the next DC and Ch 2.
1 Back Post DC each in 2 Sts..
In the Ch space make - (2 DCs , Ch 1, 2 DCs )
1 Back Post DC each in the next 2 St.
Skip the next 2 Sts.
Repeat(1BPDC*2,((2DC , Ch1, 2 DC) - in the Ch space), 1BPDC*2, Skip 2).
SL on top of the first DC.

Round 7 to 10:-
Keep repeating the increase pattern for 4 more rounds or untill the size which you wish to make.

Round 10 :- (1BPDC*6,((2DC , Ch1, 2 DC) - in the Ch space), 1BPDC*6, Skip 2).
SL on top of the first DC.
Round 11:- (1BPDC*7,((2DC , Ch1, 2 DC) - in the Ch space), 1BPDC*7, Skip 2).
SL on top of the first DC.
Round 12:- (1BPDC*8,((2DC , Ch1, 2 DC) - in the Ch space), 1BPDC*8, Skip 2).
SL on top of the first DC.

...... and so on...!!!!

**While making the last SL, change the yarn color.

Border:-
Ch 1.
1 SC in each St untill the Ch 1 space.
In the Ch 1 space make - 3 DC , Ch 3 Picot (i.e. Ch 3 and make a SL into the bottom St), 2 DCs.
1 SC in each St untill the dip.
1 Treble Crochet in the St from 1 Row below.
Repeat(1SC- in each St untill the Ch1 space, (3DC,Ch3 Picot,2DC), 1SC - in each St untill the dip,1 Trbl- in the St from 1 Row below)
Slip Stitch on top of the first Single Crochet and weave off.
