Crochet Oval Lace Doily


Add an elegant touch to your home decorations with this pretty Crochet Oval Lace Doily. Use them to decorate any corner of your home and it would definitely bring about a fresh ambiance. These would be ideal for center piece decorations as well as they would make great gifts for your loved ones be it any occasion.

This pattern is beginner friendly with simple Crochet stitches. The size of the doily is customizable to any size of your choice. I have used dual tone but you can always play around with the colors to make it suitable for any festive or seasonal theme.




Materials Used:-

  • 4 Ply Cotton Knitting Yarn
  • 4mm Crochet Hook
Size:-
17 Inches- Can be customized to any size.

Round 1:-
Start with a Slip Knot
Chain 3
1 Double Crochet in the 3rd Chain from the Hook.(this forms the Ring for the Flower)
Chain 2
1 Double Crochet Cluster in the ring.
Chain 2
1 Single Crochet in the Ring.
This is 1 Petal made.
Repeat(Chain 2, 1 Double Crochet Cluster, Chain 2, 1 Single Crochet) untill you have total 4 Petals.
At the end of the 4th Petal, instead of the last Single Crochet, make a Slip stitch into the ring.

To Make a Double Crochet Cluster Stitch:-
  1. Yarn over, insert the hook into the stitch, yarn over and pull through 2 loops on the hook.(This is same as doing a Double Crochet Stitch. It is just that , you don't finish the Double Crochet Stitch and continue doing the first part of the Double Crochet Stitch again and again).You should have 2 loops on the hook.
  2. Yarn over, insert the hook in the same stitch, yarn over and pull through 2 loops. You should have 3 loops on the hook.
  3. Yarn over and draw the yarn through all 3 loops on the hook.
  4. Chain 1.






Round 2:-
Chain 6.
1 Double Crochet in the 3rd Chain from the hook.(this forms the Ring for the Flower)
Chain 2
1 Double Crochet Cluster in the ring.
Chain 2
1 Single Crochet in the Ring.
This is 1 Petal made.
While making the 2nd petal, at the end , instead of 1 Single Crochet, make a Slip stitch in the Ring as well as the 1st Chain of the Starting Chain 6.(This will bring together the flowers)
Repeat(Chain 2, 1 Double Crochet Cluster, Chain 2, 1 Single Crochet) untill you have total 4 Petals.
At the end of the 4th Petal, instead of the last Single Crochet, make a Slip stitch into the ring.




Repeat Round 2 Untill you have total 6 flowers.
If you wish to make your doily bigger, you can increase the number of these flowers.

Round 3:-
Slip stitch in each stitch untill you reach the top of the Petal.
Change color while making the last slip stitch.
Chain 3.
1 Single Crochet on top of the next petal.
Repeat (Chain 3, 1 Single Crochet (on next Petal)



Round 4:-
Chain 5.
1 Single Crochet into the next Chain Space.
Repeat(Ch5,1 SC)
Once you reach the end, Chain 3 and 1 Double Crochet into the first Chain Space.
This is the connecting stitch.




Round 5,6 and 7:-
Repeat Round 4.
To finish Round 5 and 6, Chain 3 and 1 Double Crochet on the Double Crochet from the previous round.
To finish off Round 7 , Chain 5 and slip stitch into the first Double Crochet.
Change color while making the slip stitch.



Round 8:-
Slip stitch into the Chain space.
Chain 2(not counted as a stitch)
5 Double Crochets in the same space.
Repeat(5DC) in each of the Chain Spaces.
Slip stitch on top of the 1st Double Crochet.
Change color while making the slip stitch.


Round 9:-
Chain 5.
Skip 2.
1 Single Crochet in the next stitch.
Repeat(Ch5, Skip 2, 1 SC)
Once you reach the end, Chain 3 and 1 Double Crochet into the first Chain Space.
This is the connecting stitch.





Round 10,11 and 12:-
Repeat Round 9.
To finish off Round 12 , Chain 5 and slip stitch into the first Double Crochet.
Change color while making the slip stitch.

Border:-
Slip stitch into the Chain space.
Chain 1(not counted as a stitch)
1 Single Crochet.
3 Double Crochets
Chain 3 Picot.
3 Double Crochets.
1 Single Crochet
Repeat(1SC, 3DC, Ch3 Picot, 3DC, 1SC) in each of the Chain spaces.
Slip stitch on top of the 1st Single Crochet and weave off.


 

Here is the Summary of the Pattern:-

Round 1:-

Repeat Round 2 Untill you have total 6 flowers.

Round 3:-
SL in each stitch untill you reach the top of the Petal.
Change color while making the last SL.
Ch3.
1 SC on top of the next petal.
Repeat (Ch3, 1 SC (on next Petal)

Round 4:-
Ch5.

Repeat(Ch5,1 SC)
Once you reach the end, Ch3 and 1 DC into the first Ch Space.
This is the connecting stitch.

Round 5,6 and 7:-
Repeat Round 4.
To finish Round 5 and 6, Ch3 and 1 DC on the DC from the previous round.
To finish off Round 7 , Ch5 and SL into the first DC.
Change color while making the SL.

Round 8:-
SL into the Ch space.
Ch2(not counted as a stitch)
5 DCs in the same space.
Repeat(5DC) in each of the Ch Spaces.
SL on top of the 1st DC.
Change color while making the SL.

Round 9:-
Ch5.
Skip 2.
1 SC in the next stitch.
Repeat(Ch5, Skip 2, 1 SC)
Once you reach the end, Ch3 and 1 DC into the first Ch Space.
This is the connecting stitch.

Round 10,11 and 12:-
Repeat Round 9.
To finish off Round 12 , Ch5 and SL into the first DC.
Change color while making the SL.

Border:-
SL into the Ch space.
Ch1(not counted as a stitch)
1 SC.
3 DCs
Ch3 Picot.
3 DCs.
1 SC
Repeat(1SC, 3DC, Ch3 Picot, 3DC, 1SC) in each of the Ch spaces.
SL on top of the 1st SC and weave off.
