DIY Round Crochet Storage Basket


I love when I can create something handmade to use around my home. Crochet Baskets are one of my favorite ways to organize my home. There are all kinds of crocheted basket shapes , right from  round, oval , square or rectangular pattern you can make to organize your stuff at home. Using different yarns and stitch textures you can make beautiful collection of crochet basket patterns to make your home well organized. You can also easily adjust the size of the basket to your needs.

Today am sharing the pattern for a very quick and easy Round Crochet Storage Basket. The pattern is made with a combination of Front post and Back Post Double Crochets which gives the basket a lovely textured look. Using a bulky and chunky yarn is always a good choice to make a sturdy basket. Crochet baskets not only make your home well organized, they are also a great for gift giving to your loved ones.




Materials Used:-
  • 10 Ply Cotton Bulky Yarn 
  • 6 mm Crochet Hook



Size:-
7 Inches Base - can be customized to any size

Notes:-
For this whole Pattern, the Starting Chain 2 is not counted as a stitch. It is Just to bring the yarn to a working height. Start the next stitch in the same stitch.

Let's Start...!!!

Round 1:-
Start with a Magic Circle.
12 Double Crochets in the circle.
Pull the yarn end to close the gap.
Slip Stitch on top of the first Double Crochet.
12 Stitches.



Round 2:-
Chain 2.
2 Double Crochets in each stitch around.
Slip stitch on top of the first Double Crochet.
24 stitches.



Round 3:-
Chain 2. 1 Double Crochet in the same stitch.
2 Double Crochets in the next stitch.
Repeat*(1DC, 2DC).
Slip Stitch on top of the first Double Crochet.
36 Stitches.


Round 4:-
Chain 2. 
1 Double Crochet each in 2 stitches.
2 Double Crochets in the next stitch.
Repeat*(1DC*2, 2DC)
Slip Stitch on top of the first Double Crochet.
48 Stitches.

I stopped with the increase round here.
The Base measures 7 inches.

If you wish to make a Bigger Basket, follow the below pattern:-

Start each round with Chain 2(Not counted as a stitch)
Round 5--DC 3, 2DC in next stitch(60)
Round 6--DC 4, 2DC in next stitch(72)
Round 7--DC 5, 2DC in next stitch(84)
 .....and so on.


Turning Base:-
Start with Chain 1.(Not Counted as a stitch).
1 Single Crochet in the Back Loop.
1 Single Crochet each in the Back Loop of the remaining stitches.
Slip Stitch on top of the first Single Crochet . Make the slip stitch in both the loops.



Sides of Basket - Step 1:-
Chain 2.
1 Front Post Double Crochet each in 3 Stitches.
1 Back Post Double Crochet each in the next 3 stitches.
Repeat(1FPDC*3 , 1BPDC*3).
Slip stitch on top of the first stitch.

How to make a Front Post Double Crochet...??:-
Yarn Over and  insert your hook from front to back to front around the post of the  stitch.
Finish the stitch as the normal Double Crochet , i.e .Yarn Over and pull up a loop, Yarn Over and pull through 2 loops on your hook, Yarn Over and  pull through remaining two loops on your hook.

How to make a Back Post Double Crochet...??:-
Yarn Over and  insert your hook from Back to front to back around the post of the stitch.
Finish the stitch as the normal Double Crochet , i.e .Yarn Over and pull up a loop, Yarn Over and pull through 2 loops on your hook, Yarn Over and  pull through remaining two loops on your hook.








Sides of Basket - Step 2:-
Chain 2.
1 Back Post Double Crochet each in 3 Stitches.
1 Front Post Double Crochet each in the next 3 stitches.
Repeat(1BPDC*3 , 1FPDC*3).
Slip stitch on top of the first stitch.




Keep Repeating  Step 1 and Step 2 untill you reach the size needed.

Just remember to:-
  • Chain 2 at the start of each round. This won't be counted as a stitch.
  • Keep alternating the starting stitch of each round.
  • If the Starting stitch is a Front Post Double Crochet , then start the round with a Back Post and vice versa.
  • Slip stitch to end round.












Border:-
**For the border, we will be working on the wrong side of the basket, i.e. turn the basket so that the inside of the basket faces you and start making the stitches.

Chain 2.
(1 Half Double Crochet, 1 Slip stitch) - both in the same stitch.
Skip 1 stitch
Repeat((1HDC, 1 SL)- in the same stitch , Skip 1 )
Slip stitch on top of the first stitch and weave off the yarn ends.








Here is the Summary of the Pattern:-

Round 1:-

2 Double Crochets in the next stitch.
Repeat*(1DC*2, 2DC)
Slip Stitch on top of the first Double Crochet.
48 Stitches.
