You can make umpteen number of crochet projects with these simple Base patterns right from Crochet Bags, purses, cushion covers, pillows, scarf, rugs, placemats, blankets and many more as you wish.
Very often while making Crochet Motif Blankets or Tablemats, these Crochet Base patterns are used by joining them together. But when you join the motifs together, often you end up with uneven edges with gaps. Hence to fill up these gaps Crochet Half Base Patterns come in handy.
Today am sharing the tutorial on How To Make a Perfect Double Crochet Semi Circle. A semicircle is often used as a foundation for many crocheted projects, such as crochet shawls and Crochet Area Rugs and Tablemats and Bags and Purses. You can also uses this semicircle pattern to make cute rainbow motif.
Materials Used:-
8 Ply Cotton Yarn
4 mm Crochet Hook
Notes:-
For this pattern, instead of working in circle, each Round is made by working To and Fro. So to hide the difference in these Front side and the Back side rounds, we will be making the stitches in between each of two stitches i.e. Instead of inserting your hook only on top of the stitch, yarn over and insert your hook under the whole stitch.

Let's Start...!!!
Round 1:-
Start with a Magic Circle.
Chain 2(This wont be counted as a stitch)
6 Double Crochets in the Magic Circle.
Pull the yarn end to close the gap.
This will form a semi circle.
Once you reach end, Chain 2.
Straight Edge Turning Chain:-
Usually you would Chain 2, turn and start working the next round. Here is a quick tip to have a nice straight edge .
- Insert the hook into the 1st chain from the bottom.
- Yarn over and pull up a loop. You should have 2 loops on the hook.
- Turn your project and insert the hook into the first stitch.(the first Double Crochet)
- Yarn over and pull up a loop. You will have 3 loops on the hook.
- Again, yarn over and pull through 2 loops. You will have 2 loops on the hook.
- Lastly, yarn over and pull through 2 loops.
- This will make one Double Crochet.
Round 2:-
(1 Double Crochet is already made while making the turning chain)
1 Double Crochet in the same stitch.(that's total 2 Double Crochets) - remember to make these stitches in between each stitch , as mentioned in the notes.
Repeat (2 Double Crochets) in each of the remaining stitches.
Once you reach the end Chain 2 and turn your project - Use the Straight Turning Chain method mentioned in the previous round.
12 Stitches.
(1 Double Crochet is already made while making the turning chain)
2 Double Crochets in the next stitch.
Repeat (1 DC, 2 DC) .
Once you reach the end Chain 2 and turn your project - Use the Straight Turning Chain method to make the turning chain.
18 Stitches.
(1 Double Crochet is already made while making the turning chain)
1 Double Crochet in the next stitch.
2 Double Crochets in the next stitch.
Repeat (1 DC*2, 2 DC) .
Once you reach the end Chain 2 and turn your project - Use the Straight Turning Chain method to make the turning chain.
24 Stitches.
Keep repeating the increase pattern untill the size needed.
The increase pattern will be as below:-
Round 5 - (1 DC*3, 2 DC) - 30
Round 6 - (1 DC*4, 2 DC) - 36
Round 7 - (1 DC*5, 2 DC) - 42
Round 8 - (1 DC*6, 2 DC) - 48
Round 9 - (1 DC*7, 2 DC) ..... and so on
Once you reach the end Chain 2 and turn your project - Use the Straight Turning Chain method to make the turning chain.
Here is the Summary of the Pattern:-
Round 1:-

12 Sts.
Round 3:-
(1 DC is already made while making the turning Ch)
2 DCs in the next St.
Repeat (1 DC, 2 DC) .
Once you reach the end Ch 2 and turn your project - Use the Straight Turning Ch method to make the turning Ch.
18 Sts.
Round 4:-
(1 DC is already made while making the turning Ch)
1 DC in the next St.
2 DCs in the next St.
Repeat (1 DC*2, 2 DC) .
Once you reach the end Ch 2 and turn your project - Use the Straight Turning Ch method to make the turning Ch.
24 Sts.
Round 5 Onwards:-
Keep repeating the increase pattern untill the size needed.
The increase pattern will be as below:-
Round 5 - (1 DC*3, 2 DC) - 30
Round 6 - (1 DC*4, 2 DC) - 36
Round 7 - (1 DC*5, 2 DC) - 42
Round 8 - (1 DC*6, 2 DC) - 48
Round 9 - (1 DC*7, 2 DC) ..... and so on
